Clear FAQ lets a Wix site owner write frequently asked questions and display them on their site.
Your FAQ content is stored in your own site's CMS, not on our servers.
When you install Clear FAQ, it creates five collections in your site's Content Manager:
| Collection | What it holds |
|---|---|
| FAQ Groups | Each FAQ block: its title, layout and display settings |
| FAQ Items | Your questions and answers |
| FAQ Revisions | Snapshots of earlier versions, so you can undo |
| FAQ Settings | Your autosave preference and search-engine setting |
| FAQ Inbox | Questions your visitors sent in, if you turned that on |
These belong to your site. You can view, edit, export or delete them yourself in your Wix dashboard at any time. We do not copy them anywhere else, and we operate no separate database.
Alongside each question and each FAQ block, the app records:
This exists so version history is useful on a site with more than one editor. It is stored in your own site's collections, like everything else.
While you are editing, the app keeps a copy of your unsaved work in your own browser's local storage. This never leaves your computer and is not sent to us or to anyone else. It is deleted once your work reaches your site. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
Nothing about who they are.
The FAQ widget on your published site reads your questions and displays them. It sets no cookies and sends us no information about who visited, what they read, or what they searched for.
It writes one thing to the visitor's browser, and only if you have turned on "Visitor questions" and they actually send one: a single local-storage entry, clear-faq:ask, holding the times of their own recent sends. It is there to stop the same person sending the same question twenty times, it never leaves their browser, it is not sent to us or to you, and it identifies nobody — there is no id in it, only timestamps. Clearing site data removes it.
This applies only if you turn on "Visitor questions" for an FAQ block. It is off unless you switch it on.
When it is on, a box appears under your FAQ where a visitor can send you a question. If someone uses it, two things are stored in the FAQ Inbox collection on your own site:
That is the whole list. No name, no email address, no IP address, no cookie and no session identifier is recorded. We could not tell you who asked, and neither can you. There is nothing to reply to, because the answer appears on your page.
Nobody but you can read these. Unanswered questions are not published on your site and are not readable from it.
The box is free text, so a visitor could type personal details into it — their name, their order number, their email address. Nothing can prevent that. The message under the box asks them not to. If it happens, that text is in your own collection and you can delete it in your Content Manager like any other row. Under data protection law you are the one responsible for what your visitors send you, exactly as you would be for a contact form.
To stop receiving them, switch "Visitor questions" off. Questions already received stay in your collection until you delete them.
Clear FAQ requests access to your site's data collections. It uses that access only to read and write the five collections listed above, all of which it created. It does not read your other collections, your contacts, your orders, or any other part of your site.
We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to anyone.
The app runs on Wix's own hosting infrastructure, and your FAQ content is stored in Wix's Content Manager. Wix's handling of that data is covered by Wix's privacy policy.
If you turn on FAQ structured data, your questions and answers are published on your site's pages in a format search engines read. This is content you chose to publish publicly. You can turn it off per question, per FAQ block, or for the whole site.
Your collections and their contents stay on your site. Uninstalling the app does not delete your questions. If you want them gone, delete the collections in your site's Content Manager.
Note: Wix removes an app's collections from a site when the site updates to a version of the app that no longer defines them. That is a Wix mechanism, not something this app triggers.
Clear FAQ is a tool for site owners. It is not directed at children and collects no information from them.
If this app starts handling data differently, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated.
